Single Swing is a variation of East Coast Swing or Jive that replaces the triple step portion of the figure with a with a single sidestep. This allows a dancer to perform the same figures to faster music. Single Swing isn't an International Latin or American Rhythm style competition dance, so there isn't a strict definition of tempo for this dance. We've taken a fairly broad range for the suggested tempo. Single Swing is also referred to as Jitterbug, Jitterbug swing, Single-time Swing and Single rhythm swing and is one of many dances in the Swing family of dances.
The Single Swing is generally danced to music in a 4/4 meter between 140 and 184 beats per minute (35 and 46 measures per minute). Click here to see a list of Single Swing songs between 35 and 46 measures per minute.
